Established in 2004, Pirelli HangarBicocca has become a benchmark institution for the international art community, local public and region. Situated in a former industrial building, once a locomotive manufacturing facility, Pirelli HangarBicocca occupies 15,000 square metres, making it one of the largest single-level exhibition spaces in Europe.
It is a museum that is free of charge, accessible and open, and a place for experimentation, research and dissemination, where art is a point of reflection on the most topical themes of contemporary culture and society.
With the easy-to-read guide by Museo per tutti, visitors with intellectual disabilities can discover unconventional forms of art—non-figurative sculptures, large-scale installations, and works that explore symbolism and spatial concepts—which they may not be familiar with.
For each artwork, simplified reading sheets have been created (an English version of the ETR is also available). These sheets begin with the observation of concrete elements in the artworks and guide visitors toward understanding the themes and expressive languages used by the artists. Additionally, a downloadable collection of AAC symbols is available to help create more personalized support materials.
In the guide, visitors and their companions will find more information about the unique features that make Pirelli HangarBicocca a distinctive exhibition space, including environmental characteristics such as the size of the exhibition areas and the lighting, which shape the overall experience.
